Recovery

It did not actually take Jack this long to recover from his surgery. The month of August has flown by in a blur and I've been doing an awful job blogging this summer. Period.
Jack's surgery went great and by the time we were home from Children's Hospital in Bellevue, he was pretty much back to normal, aside from a little bit of pain. Brett and I both couldn't believe it and actually commented on how easy the process had been. Then on  Saturday night, Jack came down with a fever. And it just kept getting higher during the night. On top of the fever, Jack woke up twice screaming in terror and shaking with fear. It was definitely nothing we had ever experienced with him before. We were on the phone in the middle of the night with our doctor's office and the urologist on call at Children's and nobody seemed too concerned or too worried...except us. Jack was afraid to go to sleep, afraid to go into his room, afraid to go into our room, even in the daytime. We slept on the couch for two nights just trying to get through what was going on. After it happened again during nap time, we finally called Jack's surgeon and he told us Jack was most likely hallucinating from the codeine. We had no idea this could happen and definitely felt like awful parents for not figuring this out sooner. It took a couple of days for the medicine to work its way out of Jack's system, but by the following Thursday (exactly one week after his surgery), he was back to himself. Brett and I are very relieved to have our little boy back!
